Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage and recap of the 100th episode of AEW Rampage on July 7 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

This week's show continued the Canadian tour and delivered another match in the ongoing blind eliminator tag team tournament.

Matt Hardy teamed up with a different Jeff when he and Jeff Jarrett faced Daniel Garcia and Sammy Guevara. We also saw Brian Cage and Big Bill take on Trent Beretta and Matt Sydal, and Hikaru Shida battled Marina Shafir.

However, the biggest match on the card was the showdown between The Elite and The Dark Order.

Let's take a look at what went down on Friday's episode of Rampage.

The Elite vs. Dark Order

AEW wasted no time getting right to the action with Adam Page, Nick and Matt Jackson taking on Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds and John Silver.

Reynolds took a cheap shot at Page on the apron after he took control, so Hangman tagged in to confront him. The Dark Order was trying to play lots of mind games with The Elite, and it seemed to be working early on.

Once The Elite took over, they kept Reynolds isolated with quick tags and team-based offense. It took SIlver and Uno taking out Nick at ringside to turn the match back in their favor.

AEW trios matches can often be chaotic, but this one was well-paced and gave each participant more than one standout moment. The best part was that both teams were, for the most part, obeying the rules with tags and not staying in the ring too long if they are not legal. We saw some of that in the closing minutes, but not as much as usual.

Reynolds and Hangman were the two stars of this bout. They had several great moments together and brought a lot of great facial expressions to their performance.

The Young Bucks threw a Superkick party to set up Hangman for the Buckshot Lariat, but a distraction from Konosuke Takesh*ta allowed Uno to hit a low blow and Claudio Castagnoli to come out of nowhere with an uppercut, paving the way for The Dark Order to score the win.

Kenny Omega ran down with a steel chair to prevent Takesh*ta and Castagnoli from doing any more damage.

    Winners: The Dark Order

    Grade: B+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • It's always surprising when AEW gives up a chance to do The Elite's full entrance.
    • Page has such a nice moonsault from the top turnbuckle. Reynolds caught him perfectly, too.
    • The buckle bomb combined with the double kicks from the apron is a great triple-team spot.
    • The spot when Uno and Reynolds pulled Matt and Page off the apron to prevent a tag was timed to perfection. It is one of the better executions of that spot we have seen in quite some time.
    • The Meltzer Driver is one of those moves that is often mistimed because it's so hard to do it properly. The Bucks might need to drop that from their arsenal eventually.

Matt Hardy and Jeff Jarrett vs. Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia

Matt and Jeff were in action in the second match of the night, but it was the wrong Jeff. Hardy was forced to team with Jarrett against Guevara and Garcia in the blind eliminator tag team tournament.

Hardy and Garcia started for their teams and traded taunts before making contact. Red Death was able to get the upper hand, but Hardy's veteran experience allowed him to turn the tables relatively quickly so he could bring in Double J.

After sending him out of the ring, Guevara tried to steal Jarrett's strut before he dove over the top rope. Instead of taking out Jarrett, he landed right on top of Sonjay Dutt.

This match played into the odd couple dynamic a bit, but not as much as one would expect. In fact, Hardy and Jarrett were working together just fine for most of the match until Matt refused to use the guitar as a weapon. The match itself was fine but felt a little clunky in places.

Garcia ended up stealing the win from his own partner by making a blind tag and covering Matt after Guevara hit his finisher. The Spanish God was visibly confused and a little upset but still raised Garcia's hand.

Brother Zay tried to save Hardy from a beating from his own partner and his crew, but Satna, Singh stopped him with a huge chokeslam. That brought out Ethan Page to make the save. He took out everyone by himself to save Hardy and Zay.

Winners: Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia

    Grade: C

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • The look on Matt's face when Jarrett's music cut off his Delete chant was hilarious.
    • Garcia has turned that dumb dance into such a great part of his character. He is truly sports entertaining now.
    • Jarrett looked a step slower than usual in this match. He might have just been a little worn out.
    • That splash mountain from Hardy looked rough for Garcia. He almost had a disastrous landing.

Hikaru Shida vs. Marina Shafir

Shida broke out her old red gear that is used in Fight Forever to take on Shafir in this match. They locked up and fought for control until the ref made them break in the corner.

Shafir used some of her MMA skills to take control for a little while, but the former AEW women's champion was able to regain control after a flurry of strikes.

They had one or two minor hiccups, but both women looked good for the most part. Shida scored a victory with a kick to the head in a quick bout.

    Winner: Hikaru Shida

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Shafir not getting a televised entrance was a clear sign of who would be winning this match.
    • Shida beating Shafir down with elbow strikes was a good sequence.

Big Bill and Brian Cage vs. Trent Beretta and Matt Sydal

4 of 5

Beretta and Sydal were two of the only babyfaces to get paired together for the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament, but they had a huge challenge ahead of them with Cage and Big Bill as their opponents.

The Machine started off against Sydal and used his ridiculous power to block every high-flying move Sydal attempted before destroying him with a clothesline.

This entire match was the two powerhouses dominating the action while their opponents tried to make a comeback whenever possible, which is exactly how a bout like this should be booked.

We returned from a break just in time to see Trent hit a DDT and make a desperate tag to a fresh Sydal. He nailed Cage with a series of kicks that brought him down to the mat and even took Big Bill out with another.

The fight became more competitive as all four men fought at ringside. Sydal had several great moments in this match that showed what a skilled performer he is, but all four guys deserve credit for making this a fun main event.

Cage and Big Bill scored the win with a powerbomb and clothesline combination.

Winners: Big Bill and Brian Cage

    Grade: B+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • It's great that they still find ways to use Mark Henry to narrate video packages when they don't do the side-by-side interviews.
    • Prince Nana is such a fun presence at ringside.
    • Sydal's counter into a hurricanrana and the way Cage sold it were brilliant.

The Final Word

5 of 5

This week's Rampage was a strong episode. Every match felt like it had a purpose and none of them were booked as squashes.

Each bout was given the right amount of time, which is not always something that can be said about the weekly one-hour show.

The Elite vs. The Dark Order might have been the most important match on the card in terms of storytelling, but the most entertaining contest was definitely Cage and Bill vs. Sydal and Beretta. They packed a lot of fun moments into a 15-minute match that included a commercial break.

It has felt like AEW has put more effort into Rampage recently and it has led to a more satisfying product. Let's hope this continues as the company focused on building up Collision.
