This page contains information on where to find various collectibles in Cataris, including Missile Tanks, Energy Tanks, and Power Bomb Tanks. Cataris is the second area in Metroid Dread. It contains 15 Missile Tanks, 3 Energy Tanks, and 3 Power Bomb Tanks. In this guide, you will find how to get all the collectibles in the area.

See the full map of Cataris above for the locations of each collectible, and use the numbers on the map to correspond to the checklist below.

Energy Tanks Available After Phantom Cloak

Cataris Energy Tank (Part) 1

Cataris Energy Tank (Part) #1

After reducing the lava level in northern Cataris, you might see this tank sitting on top of the glass tube with the lava switch. That device activates the moving Spider Magnet platforms in the room just east of the switch location. Use that to return east and then use the door in the upper left of the E.M.M.I. zone to move back towards the glass tube and switch.

With the lava drained you can now run under the tube, perform a wall jump on the left wall and climb up. Then, move back east on the tube above you and slide under the ledge to get this Energy Part.

You'll spot this tank once you drain the lava chamber in the northern part of Cataris. Once that room is drained, hang onto the blue magnet panel below a moving platform to pull it down. Then, return to where the Thermal Flow Device is to jump up and reach the Energy Tank.

Cataris Missile Tank 1

Cataris Missile Tank #1

After defeating the green E.M.M.I., start from where the Central Unit boss (the one that gives you the Omega Cannon) was and go to the right. Descend and defeat the flying creatures around. If you keep going down, you will find a small passage on the left. Jump over it and you will be automatically transformed in your ball form. Keep going left and the Missile Tank will be there, right next to a door.

Cataris Missile Tank 2

Cataris Missile Tank #2

After getting the previous tank, go all the way to the left. You will find a route that will require you to use your Morph Ball ability. Go all the way down and you will be in a room with a statue of a creature. Jump to its mouth and go to the left while in ball mode.

There will be a yellow door before a heat zone. Instead of going there, break the walls above. A secret passage will be there. Use your ball mode to the left and then follow the creature's path above. The tank will be on the right, right next to a Save Station, on the west side of Cataris.

This is a Missile+ Tank. It will give you 10 missiles.

Cataris Missile Tank 3

Cataris Missile Tank #3

After fighting Kraid and acquiring the Diffusion Beam, you will find the Purple Teleportal. Before using it, climb the upper left platform. Beware of some enemies around the room. Climb the wall on the left and then jump to the blue panel on the right. Charge your attack and hit the left wall, where the mark is. You will unlock a passage for your Morph Ball.

Power Bomb Tanks Available After Speed Booster

Cataris Power Bomb Tank 1

From the Map Station, at the center of Cataris, go two rooms to the left, to the one that has a small passage for your Morph Ball mode. However, don't go there yet — keep going to the left and open a door to another room. You need the distance to activate Speed Booster, running to the small passage.

Activate your ability, get as near to the ball path as you can (remember that you can slide while using Speed Booster), and activate Spineshark. Quickly, enter ball mode and follow the path down, to where the collectible is. Release your power aiming to the right.

If you're struggling with this puzzle, watch the following video that shows you the solution in action:

Cataris Missile Tank 4

Cataris Missile Tank #4

On the heated area in the southwestern Cataris, there’s a lava section that you can pass through with your Morph Ball mode. This area is above the room in which you fought Kraid.

The Missile Tank is covered with a block, on the end of the path. You need to quickly go to the end of the passage, use a Bomb, and reveal it.

You can wait until you acquire the Gravity Suit to do this without getting damage.

Cataris Missile Tank 5

Cataris Missile Tank #5

From the Purple Teleportal, go to the room on the right. Here, climb until you find a door that leads to a high-temperature zone. Inside this room, you will find some marks in the blocks on the upper left side of the room. Break them and follow the path in your Morph Ball mode.

From Cataris’ eastern Save Station, go to the left until you find a room that is divided with blue panels in the middle. On the right side, there is a passage for your Morph Ball mode. Enter the secret room, destroy a big machine walking around, and use your Spider Magnet on the blue panel. Go to the left and throw a missile when you reach the end of the path.

Cataris Missile Tank 7

Cataris Missile Tank #7

Below the room with the interactive device that changes the lava level of the area (in eastern Cataris), you will find some doors that require a Charge Shot. Open them, go to the right and defeat a rock creature. The tank will be on the upper right side of the room, with a breakable block.

Cataris Missile Tank 8

Cataris Missile Tank #8

On the northeastern side of Cataris, there’s a heated room. Access it from the place in which you use the interactive device that controls lava. There will be a small passage on the right. Make all your way up and to the left.

You will be inside a room with two rock creatures. You need to move the Wide Beam Box with your Wide Beam and use your Bomb ability near it to break a block to access the lower floor. The Missile Tank will be on the left.

Cataris Missile Tank 9

Cataris Missile Tank #9

From the Network Station on the northwest side of Cataris, go to the right and then below, where the rock creature is. Defeat it and take the small passage on the left, using your Morph Ball mode. You will see the tank at the upper left platform. Use Flash Shift while jumping from the right to reach the blocks below it.

Cataris Missile Tank 10

Cataris Missile Tank #10

After using the elevator from Artaria, take the left and descend to the lower floor. You will find a marked wall on the left. You need to charge your shot and destroy it. The Missile Tank will be on the other side. Use your Morph Ball mode to get it.

Cataris Missile Tank 11

Cataris Missile Tank #11

Above the south Network Station, there is a high-temperature room with a pool of lava. To reach there, you need to exit the station by the left, use the Morph Ball Launcher to the next room, and make your way up. You will find a door on the right. Enter it and you will be inside the heated room. Go to the right wall and climb to where the tank is. Just wall jump to get it.

Cataris Missile Tank 12

Cataris Missile Tank #12

Go to the room with the Orange Teleportal, the one in a high-temperature region. Then, advance to the right and descend to the lava floor. Go until you almost touch the left wall. Shoot the blocks on the right and activate Speed Booster as soon as you can, running where the blocks were.

Now you can either slide and continue your way or activate Shinespark right before touching the wall on the right. Then use Morph Ball mode, pass under the wall and release the Shinespark aiming right.

Cataris Missile Tank 13

Cataris Missile Tank #13

There are a couple of ways for achieving this one -- including a more complicated run that leads up the left platforms as shown in the following video -- but there is also a pretty easy and fool-proof solution that bypasses the wall jumping entirely.

To get to this Missile Tank the easiest way, go to the Shuttle room that leads to Dairon. Make sure to clear all enemies in the adjacent room so you're not disrupted. Open the door in the shuttle room and start running while pressing the left thumbstick in (or shoot the door as you run at it) to engage Speed Buster.

The next bit may appear tricky, but it really isn't once you get the timing down. While running, slide at the single block plugging the narrow opening to the right and immediately jump to the right to clear the gap in the platform. Basically, you want to start your jump while holding right as you're just sliding and destroying the block. This will trigger a very fast Spin Boost that lets you comfortable clear the gap and land on the right platform.

When you reach the platform on the right, activate Shinespark. Space jump left and right while in this mode to go up without releasing your Shinespark power. When you're on the top platform with all the junk leaning against the wall, trigger your Shinespark (B) and aim up.

Power Bomb Tanks Available After Grapple Beam

Cataris Power Bomb Tank 2

Cataris Power Bomb Tank #2

Go to the east Save Station — there's an Energy Recharge Station on the right. Climb to the east until you are in the room with two moving panels on the sides and one above. You need to climb to the upper right side of the screen.

Then shoot the blocks and use your Grapple Beam. You'll enter a high-temperature room. Hang on the blue platform from below, shoot the first block on the right, and put Bombs on the two left. Make the platform descend a bit, then destroy the remaining blocks with missiles.

Missile Tanks Available After Gravity Suit

Cataris Missile Tank 14

Cataris Missile Tank #14

This one is on the east side of the area, inside a high-temperature room. To reach here, start from the interactive device room and go all the way to the right. Then, you will start going up, using your Space Jump ability.

Reach the top and use a Bomb on the right corner. You will unlock a path that leads to the tank.

For this one, you have to return to Kraid

<meta />'s room. You can easily go there from the Purple Teleportal chamber and using the Grapple Beam Door below there.

Inside the boss arena, jump into the lava. Go to the right and you will find a labyrinthine room. You have to break the blocks on the right using Bombs. You will end up climbing the place and seeing the item in the upper right corner of the region.

Missile Tanks Available After Screw Attack

Cataris Missile Tank 15

Cataris Missile Tank #15

Go to the southeastern Cataris. There is a big room with flying enemies, robots, and blue panels on the left side. The location you want is above the Experiment No. Z-57 boss room.

Simply go to the Closed Thermal Trapdoor, on the left, and use Screw Attack in that direction. You will break some blocks and the tank will be on the upper left corner.

Energy Tanks Available After Power Bomb

Cataris Energy Tank (Part) 3

Cataris Energy Tank (Part) #3

From the Teleportal Purple, go to the right and jump the closed door. You will be inside a tube. Shoot the Wave Beam Cover below from here. Then go to that door, all the way to the right, and descend into the lava. There will be a Grapple Beam Block on the left for you to destroy.

Now you need to go back to the Teleportal Purple room. There's a breakable block near the Grapple Door, on the floor. Shoot it and descend into the lava. When you see a place that you should go in your Morph Ball mode, use a Power Bomb to destroy some blocks.

The last part of the "puzzle" involves using Speed Booster two times. With the new area open, you can activate it while running to the right. You will break a pillar in the way. Then, you will have to use it again and then activate Shinespark right before going to the lower floor. Here would be where you broke the Grapple Beam Block before, from the other side. Release Shinespark aiming above you. The tank will be on the right.
