Spillway
by cvagrad86 » Sun Jun 05, 2011 8:17 pm
Hiked the mtn. today, zig zagged back and forth to get some perspectives on the Spillway chair deconstruction. Eery in places, the result to date would look like a NELSAPed lift on some defunct mtn. There are stakes indicating where the new chair towers will be. It appears to be 5 feet to the west of the existing towers. The clearing for the survey line at the top is hard to figure out. It goes 15 feet above the spillway cross cut, up the slope. If that will be the end of the chair, significant blasting/clearing will have to take place.
Here are some pics....

Bullwheel will be on that slope above the crosscut. The chair will pass over you as you unload slightly to the West of the existing unload.

The Skyline chair will have more towers, allowing it to set lower as the cables won't be sagging as the Spillway lift did. The bullwheel will be above the unloading area, Very little excavating needs to be done.

Good deal-- thanks for the info. That makes alot of sense having more towers and a lower cable. Actually heading up there today to check things out.

That will be a hell of a ride when someone inevitably fails to get off at the unload ramp. I'll make sure to never be standing under the cable after clearing just in case it starts to rain small children and ski equipment.
Edit:
Thanks for the pictures cvagrad!

Don't think so, but it looks like they started dismantling the bottom terminals and first two towers today.

Skyline would be a pretty good name. Fits the purpose. But like most, I will be calling it Spillway regardless.

As of 3:00 PM you could see smoke from it in the webcam. A still doesn't really show anything, need to see it swirling to even see it.

Turns on the big jump on Haywire?! So am I getting this right, there's still snow on the mtn? I see a patch of snow on the wski webcam but not enough to make a turn on. Maybe a half turn but not a full turn.
And I agree with Tooth, best news in a long time on this site about the burning of the lower terminal! Woohoo!
Now the question Tooth posed...is Wigman still alive? What has happened to this site???

The post season pain of the "long wait" has caused the once vibrant and witty exchange of all information deemed important to us to come to a screeching halt. Or something like that. I love Trav just for putting skis on and attempting to get a turn in at our beloved mountain on June 8th. Someone get this man a hooker.

+1 on a hooker for Trav. Let's say we get one for Wigman too. Maybe that'll get him back to taunt us til the snow flys again with progress pics of Spillway and Brackett Basin.
He had my drooling last Fall with all his Basin pics.

I saw three piles of snow on Haywire last weekend. Two are certainly still there, as they were 10 feet tall still. I got a picture on my phone, will try and upload.
